Call for Diversity in India and China - Jul 2007

People Management Magazine published this article in their 26th of July 2007 issue:-

Companies in India and China should integrate diversity into their recruitment and development strategies to stay competitive, a report has found. Research by consultants Schneider Ross found that in India diversity was often compromised by the stereotyping of women, generational barriers and recruitment pressures. In China, inclusive workplace cultures were being impeded by a lack of leadership skills and management training. The report, Diversity and Inclusion: A Lever for Solving Talent Pool Dilemmas in India and China, was based on interviews with 25 senior managers and HR directors at 14 foreign companies in Shanghai and Mumbai and information from focus groups. Anjana Nathwani, director of knowledge and practice at Schneider Ross, said a key issue was that despite having global diversity strategies, companies “were not using them to make a difference”.
