Workplace Survey and Action Plan - Sexual Orientation
We were asked to help produce an action plan for achieving greater inclusivity for lesbian, gay and bisexual staff across the UK. This was felt to be a sensitive area for the bank and an openly gay consultant worked on the project to encourage confidence and participation amongst the employees, especially LGB staff.
After initial 1:1 interviews to scope the issues, a major employee wide survey was undertaken and analysed. Communication was led by the Chief Executive. The results were disseminated and some focus groups of LBG staff were initiated to help determine an action plan which could be put to the organisation’s Diversity Council.
The results and action plan proposals were received positively and a number of initiatives have been taken to promote a more inclusive of LGB people, both within the bank and externally. The work helped the organisation to prepare for the impact of the Civil Partnership Act and on-going dialogue with this group of staff has become possible through the establishment of a LGB task force and network group.
